Government shutdown won't affect offshore oil, gas permitting, agency says

The processing of offshore oil and natural gas drilling permits will continue even though the federal government has shut down, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said. "The permitting and enforcement activities that continue would allow industry to function during a government shutdown," the agency said. Permitting procedures for drilling on public lands, however, will be temporarily stopped.
