Gulf nations to get broadband fiber network from consortium

Vodafone Group and three telecoms in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are establishing the Middle East-Europe Terrestrial System, aimed at providing fiber-based broadband access in the Persian Gulf. The consortium will use a mostly dormant fiber-optic network that extends for 1,400 kilometers [870 miles], installed by the Gulf Cooperation Council.
