Hospital re-engineers its emergency department

Physicians, nurses and staff at the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham & Women's Hospital employed a variety of team-based innovations and "lean manufacturing" techniques to dramatically improve patient satisfaction in nearly every category of performance and efficiency. The teams analyzed data, conducted trials and tested ideas repeatedly to find ways of improving "door to bed" times and minimizing the need for traditional triage.
