Mindfulness training may offer relief for burned-out docs

Physicians who find time for mindfulness training experience fewer symptoms of burnout and are more efficient, positive and attentive with patients, according to two studies published in The Annals of Family Medicine, writes Dr. Pauline Chen. The training, which teaches doctors to be present and attentive in the moment, appears to counteract the physical, mental and emotional exhaustion experienced by as many as two-thirds of physicians, according to the studies.
