Opinion: More generous family leave policies are not a panacea

The U.S. is often slammed for its lack of family-friendly policies, but the truth is that more generous maternity leave won't necessarily bring about greater equality in the workplace, writes Kay Hymowitz, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute. In fact, research has found that climbing the corporate ladder can be challenging for women in countries that have more generous leave policies. "It seems that long maternity leave puts women on a mommy track from which they have a hard time exiting," she writes.
