RD: Balance in dietary fats important for heart health

Research suggests that people should lower their intake of saturated fats to about 10% of total calories but not eliminate them, while eating more unsaturated fats and foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish, to promote cardiovascular health, registered dietitian Pam Stuppy writes. She warns that diets too low in fats and high in refined carbohydrates can trigger high blood triglycerides, which lowers good cholesterol.
