A Frost & Sullivan report predicts the value of the U.S. patient portal market for doctors and hospitals will increase to $898.4 million in 2017 from $279.8 million last year. The trend will be driven by several factors, including the surge in consumer demand for health IT, efforts to promote accountable care and achieve clinical integration, and the need to satisfy the requirements for stage 2 meaningful use. The study also found that 40% of doctors in ambulatory practices and half of hospitals use some kind of patient portal tool.
