Wash. wastewater plant renovation incorporates BIM

The Budd Inlet Treatment Plant in Olympia, Wash., is just one wastewater facility in the country that must be upgraded to boost efficiency, writes Tom Paul of Mortenson Construction. New pumping systems, a sedimentation building and scrubber facilities, as well as excavation work, were just some of the projects that were needed. The building team used BIM to map out possible conflicts. "Through the use of BIM, the team was able to bring the piping and electrical conduits in the utilidor to fabrication-level detail," Paul writes.
