What can be done to crack down on student truancy?

Everyone who bears some responsibility for getting students to school each day should be held accountable for truancy, according to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Kamala D. Harris, attorney general of California. In this commentary, they advocate for California, in particular, to change its law to collect individual student attendance data and hold schools, families and others accountable for the results.
