The number of women farmers grew rapidly in Michigan from 2002 to 2007, and it is thought to have risen even higher since then. This trend may be fueled by a number of factors, including a growing emphasis on nutrition and a rise in entrepreneurship among women. "I actually found my passion. I feel very fortunate," said Joannee DeBruhl, who became a farm owner after losing her job in the insurance industry.
