Presurgery doses of beta blockers may cut COPD patient deaths

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who did not take cardio-selective beta blockers before vascular surgery had twice the risk of dying within a month of the procedure compared with those who took the drugs, Dutch researchers reported. The 10-year study also found that the drugs did not cause respiratory side effects and helped prevent late cardiac events in patients.
