Aviation schools fight new safety rules after Buffalo crash

In hearings on a fatal Continental accident outside Buffalo in February that killed 50 people, NTSB officials exposed numerous safety issues, including lax pilot hiring practices and training problems. But measures to extend the number of hours pilots need to obtain certificates are facing opposition from aviation colleges, with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, for instance, the country's largest aviation school, coming out against the provision.
