Many construction workers face prolonged unemployment:

The construction boom provided jobs with solid wages and middle-class lifestyles to men without college degrees, experts say. Now that the boom is over, many of these workers face protracted unemployment. The number of workers employed in construction in the Naples, Fla., area, for instance, is now down 50% from its peak, observers say.
