Medtronic, Edwards go head to head in valve development

Medical device heavyweights Edwards Lifesciences and Medtronic separately are working to develop catheter-based heart valve replacements that could revolutionize heart surgery. The percutaneous heart valves allow for implantation using catheters, eliminating the need for open-heart surgery and opening up the procedure to more people, including those not considered healthy enough for the more invasive surgery.
