Study: PET/CT useful in fast-tracking lung cancer diagnosis

Dutch researchers who used F18-FDG PET/CT as one of the modalities to fast-track lung cancer diagnosis found the method to have 97% sensitivity, 56% specificity, 90% accuracy, 92% positive predictive value and 77% negative predictive value. The findings indicate that the use of PET/CT in an outpatient fast-track setting allows for "valuable information for diagnosing lung cancer, with a high positive predictive value, and is useful for clinical decision-making," the researchers said.
