United, AirTran announce liquidity moves

United Airlines and AirTran Airways have joined the stampede of airline companies taking advantage of a recent market thaw in order to boost their cash position. United said it will sell at least $175 million in 10-year notes and issue a minimum of 19 million new shares. AirTran, meanwhile, has restructured a credit line and negotiated a credit card processing agreement that will allow it to avoid cash holdbacks.
