Windstream will trim workforce 5%

Windstream will shave 350 positions -- about 250 of which were filled -- in a cost-cutting move to relieve "top line revenue pressure that we face from the residential voice business," said an official with the telecom-service provider. The company, which has an employee total of more than 7,000 people, said it would account for severance payments and benefits by taking a $15 million charge in the fourth quarter.
