DOT doles out $235 million in rail grants

The Department of Transportation has doled out an additional $235 million in grants to planned passenger rail networks. Some of the funds -- allocated to projects in California, North Carolina, Ohio and Maryland -- will go to upgrade freight railways that host Amtrak trains. California's $194 million portion will go toward engineering and an environmental analysis of its planned high-speed rail corridor.
