Companies such as IBM and Apple came back from near-collapse to become corporate powerhouses, and a study of such cases suggests that there are four factors behind effective corporate turnarounds, writes Aswath Damodaran. Firms must accept the need for change, find a leader capable of pushing through reforms, have effective planning and a lot of serendipity, Damodaran argues.
