Dubai seeks growth in midrange lodging segment through incentives

Dubai's tourism authority is waiving a 10% municipal fee on hotel room rates per night of occupancy at midrange hotel properties. The offer was made in a bid to attract lower-tier hotel developers. "In order to achieve our headline objective of 20 million visitors per year by 2020, we need to both increase the overall stock of hotel rooms in Dubai and widen the range of options for visitors," said Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
