Government shutdown disrupts operations of health agencies

As Republicans and Democrats continue debating the Affordable Care Act, the government shutdown halted operations of some health agencies, including the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the CDC. Although AHRQ will stop providing funds for medical research, it will continue projects under the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund and the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act. The CDC will end its seasonal influenza program as well as cease providing updated disease treatment and prevention guidelines.
