Government shutdown shouldn't affect air travel

The government shutdown won't affect passport inspectors, security officers and air traffic controllers, and as such, travelers shouldn't expect traffic issues. According to the Department of Homeland Security, almost all Transportation and Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection staffers are protected from furloughs. But some FAA employees will be furloughed -- new air traffic controller training will be suspended.
