Holiday overlap inspires chefs to create Thanksgiving-Hanukkah mash-up dishes

For the first time in 125 years, Hanukkah falls on the same day as Thanksgiving, giving chefs an excuse to combine traditional dishes from both holidays, such as sweet potato latkes topped with turkey and gravy or the official Hanukkah doughnut, the sufganiyot, filled with cranberry sauce. "We have a once in a lifetime opportunity here," said Zach Kutsher, owner of Kutsher’s Tribeca in New York City. "It enables us to have a lot of fun and combine the two holidays in a culinary mash-up that really is a celebration of a combined culture."
