An Iowa landfill company is the target of a lawsuit by the state's Department of Natural Resources. The firm is accused of improperly dumping 300,000 tons of solid waste and failing to get permits for two landfill cells constructed in 2011, according to court documents. The DNR claims the company neglected to install a leachate-collection system and liners in a landfill's cells since October 2007. The company could be subject to daily fines of as much as $5,000 for each violation and could face a permanent injunction against unlawful dumping if the suit is successful.
