Mass. town council schedules casino referendum

The town council in West Springfield, Mass., voted unanimously to approve a casino referendum for the Nov. 5 ballot. The nonbinding referendum asks voters if they approve of a proposed MGM Resorts International casino in neighboring Springfield, Mass. In September, West Springfield voters rejected a casino in their town. City officials are hopeful the referendum will encourage discussion between the town and MGM.
