NextGen is seen as crucial for safety, efficiency

NextGen is a holistic approach to modernizing the nation's air transportation system that can't be replicated by other, "piecemeal" efforts at upgrading technology, warns Marion Blakey, president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association. "NextGen is a whole package -- a system of systems approach," she says. Blakey and other members of aviation organizations and companies gathered this week ahead of the looming government shutdown to discuss the potential of NextGen and threats it faces from sequestration cuts.
