Opening of Seattle's light-rail extension may be moved up

Work is under budget on the $1.95 billion, 3.1-mile U-Link light-rail extension that will connect Seattle's Capitol Hill and the University of Washington. And, because of a six-month float, Sound Transit executives hope an early 2016 opening can be achieved instead of the planned opening in September 2016. Heavy tunnel and station work is 75% complete. "We've asked our contractors for cost proposals on what it might take to move the start date up," said Sound Transit CEO Joni Earl.
