Overprescribing Tamiflu could cause drug resistance

Traces of bird flu treatment Tamiflu and other antiviral drugs in sewage systems and natural waters could make certain viruses resistant to the drugs during a pandemic, researchers warned. Tamiflu, or oseltamivir, could be taken in by waterfowl in high enough concentrations, allowing them to develop resistance to flu viruses they carry, the study reports.
