The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced plans to begin constructing levees along the Des Plaines River near Chicago to the tune of $26 million. Next spring, Vistas Construction will begin building a 10,000-foot earthen levee and flood wall near the Illinois towns of Mt. Prospect and Prospect Heights. Volunteers sandbagged the Des Plaines River last month to prevent flooding after three days of heavy rains in the Chicago area.
