Japan's household spending goes up, joblessness down

The unemployment rate in Japan took a surprise fall in August. At the same time, household spending rose 2.6% compared with the same month last year. Economists warned against reading too much into the jobless data, which show a decline from 5.7% in July, a record high, to 5.5%. The median of economists' forecasts was an increase to 5.8%.
