Rhode Island lawmaker would support gambling referendum

The timing might be right for Rhode Island voters to decide whether to allow full-scale gambling in the state, Rhode Island House Speaker William J. Murphy said. He noted that the state's gambling industry is facing possible competition from Massachusetts and said the state should have another vote on the issue. Harrah's has expressed interest in expanding into the state, and executives from the company met with Murphy earlier this year.
