Chesapeake: Marcellus Shale drilling will continue to expand

The upsurge in natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale in West Virginia is expected to continue, with companies drilling "hundreds and hundreds" of wells in the region over the next five years, said Scott Rotruck, Chesapeake Energy's vice president of corporate development and state government relations. The Marcellus and Utica shale plays "are truly revolutionary [in] terms of creating stable energy markets" because of the abundance of gas that contains propane, ethane, pentane and butane, he said.
