4 green roofs advance sustainability at Empire State Building

Installation of four green-roof systems at the Empire State Building in New York City will help the structure in its push to become the "most sustainable office building" in the U.S., writes Beth Buczynski. The green roofs are made of pre-vegetated mats and cover about 10,000 square feet. The greenery is expected to help curb storm runoff, air pollution and heating costs.
