Ariz. city council authorizes tribe-funded grants

The Peoria, Ariz., City Council has approved two grants funded by the Tohono O'odham Nation. The Police Department had applied for $60,000 to fund a surveillance tower, while the operator of the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts had sought $44,000. The tribe is seeking to open a casino on the border of Peoria and Glendale.
