Construction industry standard contract forms offer good start

Some contractors begin work on private projects before signing a contract, but readying a comprehensive contract before beginning work minimizes risk for all concerned, writes attorney Karl Oles of Stoel Rives. Contract forms can be obtained through industry groups such as the ConsensusDocs organization and the American Institute of Architects, he writes. Oles recommends preparing an interim contract in the event the negotiation of the comprehensive contract is delayed.
