NYC adult obesity rate increases 25%, data show

The adult obesity rate in New York City has risen 25% since Mayor Michael Bloomberg was sworn into office in 2002, despite a decline in soda consumption and healthier lifestyles, data from the city Health Department showed. "Nationwide, adult obesity rates have been going up for at least the last 30 years, and we expect a lag in changes in the adult obesity rate after a change in diet," a department spokeswoman said.
