TSMC execs talk 16nm, 20nm chip challenges

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing executives spoke about the foundry's progress in turning out ICs with 20-nanometer and 16nm features at a Silicon Valley presentation, Rick Merritt writes. Oracle was able to tape out its M7 server processor using TSMC's 20nm process, they said. Altera and Xilinx are also using that 20nm process, and Qualcomm is working with TSMC on 16nm and 20nm design flows, the executives reported.
