What role do parents play in gifted-education programs?

With no federal mandate or funding stream to pay for gifted-education programs, parents of students who are gifted sometimes must advocate for services in districts and states where programs can vary widely. In particular, parents of children in certain minority groups and low-income areas often have to push harder for programs because students in these groups are traditionally underrepresented in gifted education.
