Google bids to offer free Wi-Fi in San Francisco

Google has joined more than a dozen other companies in the bidding to blanket San Francisco with a free Wi-Fi network. If it wins the contract, the deal could serve as a launch pad for a nationwide Google Wi-Fi network.
