Budget shortfall forces Virginia to cut more road projects

The Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board will convene in November or December to further slash the budget for road projects. The state already cut $1.1 billion in road and transit projects from the six-year budget, but faces an additional funding shortfall of $740 million over six years. According to the board, gas-tax collections plummeted to a 20-year low this year.
