Retailers pull out stops to draw shoppers in downturn

Big and small retailers are running sales and promotions in an effort to get shoppers out to malls as the Wall Street meltdown spreads. "I haven't seen this kind of fright since 9/11," said Faith Hope Consolo, chairman of real estate firm Prudential Douglas Elliman's retail leasing sales division. Analysts are predicting the weakest holiday season in 24 years.
