APA issues new depression guidelines

The American Psychiatric Association on Friday released new guidelines for depression care based on a five-year review of more than 13,000 scientific articles. The recommendations include a tailored approach to treating the condition, regular exercise, use of newer treatments such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, and shock therapy in cases where drugs prove ineffective.
