Get your maintenance plan unstuck with a fishbone diagram

To get their maintenance operations running smoothly, maintenance managers should use fishbone diagrams to balance resources among the "five Ms" -- manpower, methods, machines, materials and measurements, writes Jeff Shiver. It's OK to prioritize one area or another, he notes, but ultimately you'll need to keep all these bases covered to avoid problems. "All of these items roll up to complete the job plan and job package that should be created by the maintenance planner," Shiver explains.
