School has few takers for healthy vending machine snacks

Baked potato chips still beat carrots, apples and hummus in vending machine sales at Commack High School in New York, even as officials hope to back up nutrition lessons in the classroom with healthier fare in the cafeteria. Parents and nutrition experts say the trend to more-nutritious vending machine snacks will make children more likely to choose the healthier fare, but dietary changes can take time.
