Study finds why some fats are beneficial

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, found that saturated fats stimulate a key metabolic pathway that triggers type 2 diabetes onset, while polyunsaturated fats such as omega-3s deactivate the pathway's receptors and prevent them from being switched on. The findings could lead to the development of new drugs to help prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes, experts said.
