Blackwelder: Aging population contributes to physician shortage

The Affordable Care Act may increase the shortage of physicians in the U.S. but AAFP President Reid Blackwelder, M.D., said an aging patient population also is contributing to the problem. He said more incentives for medical students to choose primary care and online technology may help solve the problem, along with a team-based approach to care.
