Data released at IDWeek 2013 shows 61% of HIV patients received hospital-based care between 2008 and 2011. Researchers reported that higher-income patients and women were more likely to receive hospital-based care, while those on Medicare and Medicaid were more likely to be treated at community-based clinics. Community clinic care was associated with better retention in care, while rates of viral suppression were higher at hospital-based clinics.
