Focus on character education yields honor for S.C. school

Service-learning projects are one way a South Carolina school helps teach students to develop life skills and good character. Burgess Elementary School recently was recognized as a National School of Character by the Character Education Partnership for focus on life skills and character. "The mission of our school is to create students who are leaders and learners for a lifetime, and will be good citizens and productive members of society," principal Donna Hooks said.
