"Modern Family" slate shows progress in second week on USA

Although USA's "Modern Family" slate improved its performance in its second week, the comedy series still lags behind the procedurals and movies that formerly occupied its time slots. The average viewership for Tuesday's 8 to 11 p.m. block was up 17%, while preliminary figures for Wednesday show a 13% increase, compared with the previous week. The network is giving a major marketing push to "Modern Family," hoping it will help when upcoming original comedies are launched.
