Norwell Engineering exec defends BP's efforts to seal Macondo well

A Norwell Engineering executive defended BP's efforts to plug its leaking Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 during a trial over the incident. The U.K. major correctly estimated risks associated with the "top kill" technique of killing the well, which involves placing a blowout preventer on top of the ruptured device, said Iain Adams, Norwell's project manager and managing director. "It was apparent that the [blowout-preventer-on-blowout-preventer] was not physically ready before top kill," Adams said.
